When it comes to your job…it can be hard to clearly see if you’ve got something great, something acceptable, or a bad situation that could be potentially harmful to your career path, mental state and health.
Rough economic times are making matters worse with lots of lay-offs, a lack of raises, promotions without pay, and job descriptions with ridiculous expectations.
Here is a list of clear signs it’s time to move on:
- You’ve absorbed the positions of others who have quit or been laid off and are now doing the work of 2 or more full time staff members.
- A promotion or a raise doesn’t appear to be on the horizon any time soon and it’s been over a year
- You get depressed Sunday nights knowing you have to go back to work on Monday
- It’s hard to wake up and start your day enthusiastically because you know you’ll be at work all day.
- After work you feel drained and irritable
- You feel like you need to escape once you’re home and resort to reality-numbing substances including booze, prescription pills, pot, etc.
- You’re not challenged by your job
- You and your skills are not valued by your boss or team members
- Your job is not the best use of your skill set
- Complaining about work is a large part of the conversations you have with your friends or family.
- You feel stressed out almost daily at work and/or you have had a breakdown of any kind due to the stress of your job
- Work stress, pressure for perfection or your to-do list at work is causing you insomnia
- You can’t stand seeing the people you work with every day.
- You don’t care about the end result of your work
Staying at a job that’s causing you stress or symptoms of depression has more of an effect on your health and wellness than you probably realize. Not to mention you are selling yourself incredibly short by remaining in such a negative situation which is a self-worth and confidence killer.
Right now, finding a new job isn’t as easy – but it’s worth the effort if it means less time spent in a stressed or deeply unhappy state. You’re worth more than that!
